St. Patrick’s Day Sectional
Our Fredericksburg area members, led by Tournament Chair Deborah Hagy, staged another successful sectional March 16-18 with 131 tables despite competing against the ACBL nationals in nearby Philadelphia. Richard Deyerle led the master point winners, grabbing 24.65 points with partner Gregory Bright of Maryland. Richard Wallace and Neal Walters, both of Fredericksburg, were close behind with 22.64 while Mark Rosenbloom of Glen Allen scored 20.12 to round out the top five.
In the Saturday afternoon pair game, Harry and Anne Alferink scorched the field with a 70.27% game. I kidded them that riding the bus eliminated all the outside distractions, not to mention not having to worry about hospitality which they host at the Richmond sectionals. Harry added seriously that taking the bus was relaxing.
Last year’s experiment to charter a bus from Richmond to Fredericksburg was repeated with similar, successful results as 23 players rode the chartered bus. Looks like we have a fixture and hope to repeat the reverse trip from Fredericksburg to Richmond for the June 8-10 sectional.
