On Sunday, November 11, friends and family gathered to celebrate the life of Jack Buchanan, our dear friend and longtime life and bridge partner of Will Williams. Over 150 people gathered at The Place at Innsbrook to share stories about Jack.
The speakers included George Lewis a friend from Richmond, who also served as master of ceremonies; Linda MacCleave a friend from Richmond; Margot Hennings, District 6 Director; Dan Sabo from Kona, Hawaii, and former President of the Kona Bridge Club; Stefan Lopatkiewicz, a friend who is an attorney and bridge player from Washington DC; Carol Witkamp, retired Chief of Staff for the Army Corps of Engineers in New Orleans who worked with Jack at the Department of Energy and now lives in Augusta, Georgia; Bob Heller, former President of the American Contract Bridge League; Doug Grove, former head director of MABC and District 6; Helen Moran and Glen Swann friends from Richmond; Jane Farthing, current president of District 6; and Barry Fratkin, president of RBA.
Will spoke at the end to express his appreciation and love for those who attended, as well as those who wanted to be there but could not. He will be leaving for Hawaii on Friday where a traditional Hawaiian ceremony will be held to honor Jack. His ashes will be scattered over the waters of Kona.
